Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Course

• Offered Friday afternoon, September 29, 2023
• This is an optional additional course – open to those attending Hospital Medicine Update in San Diego Sept. 20-20, 2023, but also open to people not attending Hospital Medicine Update
• Intensive, hands-on procedural skills training
• Course is by our friends at Hospital Procedures Consultants, who have trained over 7000 practitioners in POCUS
• 2.5-hour course, offered twice on Sept. 29, 12:30-3:00 and 3:15-5:45
• Includes the following procedures:
• Echocardiography
• Assess LV contractility and wall motion abnormalities
• Assess for right ventricular enlargement
• Assess for pericardial effusion
• Identify cardiac pathology on our advanced HeartWorks simulator
• Assess volume status using IVC diameter and respiratory variation
• Pleura ultrasound to assess for a pneumothorax
• Assess for pleural effusions
• Assess for free fluid in abdomen including presence of ascites
• Participants have access to the 11.5 hour online course for 12 months. It is critical to utilize this course prior to the hands-on course, to optimize learning and gaining experience

POCUS course cancellation policy: Space is very limited, and the online portion is made available before the live course. For this POCUS course, no refunds for cancellations made after September 20, 2023 except for health or family emergencies. For cancellations made From September 10 until September 20, 2023:

• If the online course has not been completed, $250 refund is available
• If the online course has been completed, $100 refund is available, and the online course and HPC procedure video bundle ($595 value) remains available to you
