Cancun / Riviera Maya Travel Tips
Classroom Attire: Your preference, there is no dress code. However, we do recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater since sometimes the conference room is cold.
Travel Documents: You will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after entry to Mexico. US citizens can find more information by visiting the Travel State Website. Non-US citizens, please contact your native country's respective department for more information. We recommend to make two paper copies of your passport (leave one at home with a trusted person and keep one in your suitcase) and also take a picture to keep in your phone as well as emailing it to yourself and / or saving it on a file server you can access such as Dropbox. Having an accessible copy will make your life much easier if your passport is lost.
Transportation: We recommend flying in to Cancun International Airport (CUN) and utilizing Cancun Airport Transportation from the airport to the hotel. Although Uber exists in Mexico, the taxi drivers have agreements that prevent Uber (and other ride share operators) from pickups at the airport and hotels. Parking at the hotel is free. However, we STRONGLY recommend NOT to rent a car. Although the car rental itself is inexpensive, the required insurance (as much as $70 per day) and additional $3000 deposit makes renting a car expensive. Furthermore, the roads have very low speed limits that are not adhered to but if you are caught speeding it can be a challenging situation with the police. For excursions, most of the tours include transportation and/or taxis are readily available.
Tipping: The resort is all-inclusive so technically tipping is not required. However, the staff will be extremely grateful if you leave a gratuity - such as for the bell boy that carries your luggage.
